1. Air Duct Cleaning

When was the last time you got your air ducts clean? Overtime, your air ducts can build up a ton of dust along with bacteria, contaminants, and even mildew. Start your new year’s saving some money on your next heating bill or air conditioning in the future by cleaning your air ducts. If you’ve never gotten your air ducts cleaned before, now is the right time to do so for better air circulation and cleaner air overall.

2. Window Cleaning

From heavy snows to rainstorms, your windows may be hard to look through with water stains and dirt. Cleaning outdoor windows in January may not sound like much fun. The best route is calling a professional like Maid OK to do a deep window cleaning for you. Professional window cleaning maids will be able to eliminate any stain, hard water build up, grease marks, streaks, mud, you name it! Additionally, most professionals such as Maid OK include both exterior and interior windows along with the windowsill, frame, and screen.

3. Upholstery

You may not recall ever cleaning the upholstery furniture in your home or ignoring it altogether. Cleaning upholstery requires an appropriate cleaning method that won’t damage the surface while being able to extract the dirt and remove pet odor and stains. Maid OK services offer a powerful hot-water extraction method that can do just that.

4. Clean out your basement or garage

If you’re feeling in the mood to organize and clean up, you may want to start with your basement or garage. Don’t continue to neglect your basement each year when you have the opportunity to create something brand new. Start off by making a list of changes you want to make such as cleaning the basement floor, organizing boxes, donating items, cleaning windows, changing light fixtures, and cleaning the furniture.

5. Clearing out your gutters

Many problems may arise when you neglect your gutters and allow them to fill. When gutters become full of leaves, dirt, mud, gunk, and overfilled, it can potentially cause water damage to the roofing, getting into your basement, and if close enough get into your garden risking a minor flood.

Methods of gutter cleaning include taking a ladder (be sure to use a reliable ladder and practice ladder safety) versus cleaning from your roof. Cleaning from your roof is ultimately unsafe and inefficient. Ensure that you are properly on the ladder keeping your waist between the rails. When cleaning your gutter, be sure to use a good pair of garden gloves and scoop the gunk out. Additionally, you can use a hose to clear out the rest, this way you will know if you still have a clogged gutter or not.

6. Carpet Cleaning

Carpets ideally need to be cleaned every 6-12months. However, if members in your household are smokers, it is ideal that your carpet be cleaned every 4 months, and if you have children and/or pets we recommend every 3 months.

Cleaning your carpet in the beginning of the year will leave your home’s air quality clean for months. Creating a healthier environment for your family will protect you from future health problems.

Maid OK offers carpet cleaning services using hot water extraction using high caliber machines. Our equipment has the power of heating to 180 degrees at 300 PSI with a wand that can vacuum up to 30% more than the average market rate. Additionally, we will do your hallways and closets free of charge, deodorize and treat pots, and eliminate pet odor.

7. Curtains

Dusty curtains? Buying new curtains can be a pain and expensive. Save money by cleaning them yourself or taking them for dry-cleaning. Depending on the curtain’s material, you may need to hand wash with special care or simply dust them off. Curtains do become heavy once wet and it is advised not to use a washing machine. Try putting your curtains in the dryer on no-heat to remove dust or dust them with a vacuum brush hose.

8. Washer/Dryer and Vents

Ironically enough it is important to clean the appliances that keep things clean. Your washer can build up detergent or mold while your dryer as you may know, will build up lint.

For washers, fill the washer with a cup of bleach and water and let it run. When you’re finished, fill the washer with water and add a couple cups of vinegar to sit. Then run again. Ensure there is no more bleach by letting your washer run on its own one last time.

For dryers, clean out your lint trap and additionally use a vacuum brush hose to suck out dirt stuck inside where the lint trap sits. You’ll want to clean the exhaust of your dryer by taking it off and removing as much lint possible.

9. Hard to Reach Areas

The spots you’ve been avoiding all year. Whether that be the inside of your pantry, a messy drawer with items you struggle to find, your ceiling fan, the drawers and backs of refrigerator shelves, you name it. Keep these areas clean using safe household cleaners (be sure to check pH levels) and efficient cleaning supplies.

10. Light Fixtures

Keep your home up to date with new light fixtures. Changing out or replacing your light fixture can seem complicated and dangerous. Make sure you’re prepared when installing light fixtures. Some tips to keep in mind are using a secure ladder and having someone help you hold the fixture while installing the bulb. Ensure all electricity is turned off in your home and have a cloth or towel placed below for an easy clean up.
