The thought of cleaning your kitchen oven may seem daunting. You may not even remember the last time you cleaned it but it’s definitely on the back of your mind to get it cleaned. Whether you look forward to cleaning your oven or not, the experts at Maid OK can offer some great tips to overcome this hectic chore.

Cleaning Methods for Oven Cleaning

There are several cleaning methods for oven cleaning depending on the current state of your oven. We will briefly go over two top cleaning methods that include: using store-bought cleaners or alternatively using baking soda and vinegar. Before you begin cleaning, be sure to use rubber cleaning gloves, paper towels, protective eyewear if needed, scouring sponge pads, and a damp cloth.

If you decide to use store-bought cleaners, make sure you read the label on the cleaner as harsh chemicals may be present. The first step is to ensure everything in your oven is cleared out such as racks, pots, pans, etc..Placing paper towels around you are beneficial to saving any additional clean up time. Simply spray the cleaner inside your oven to cover all sides and the top as well. Check the label on the cleaner to see how long you’ll need to let the spray sit. If it is not listed, simply set your timer for 25-30

minutes to allow the cleaner to work in. During this time, you can work on cleaning the racks or other oven items.

Once the timer is up, take the damp cloth and wipe your oven down. If you notice any hard to remove spots, take the scouring pad and clean against the grain. Thoroughly wipe down the oven with paper towels if needed, ensuring the surface is completely dry and grease-free!

Baking Soda and Vinegar Oven Cleaning (Overnight Method)

Similar to the first method, be sure to clear your oven from racks or pots and pans and lay a paper towel around and below the oven. You will need to create a paste using half a cup of baking soda along with 2-3 tablespoons of water, according to CookingLight. Proceed to spread the paste all over your oven, close the oven and allow the paste to “sit for 10-12 hours or overnight”. Next, take a wet cloth and wipe down the oven completely. Spray vinegar on hard to remove areas. That’s it!

How Often Do I Clean My Oven?

If your oven is visibly filled with grease or crusted food particles then it is time to give your oven a scrub. Additionally, when you heat your oven up, do you notice a certain smell? If your oven has a certain smell that is off, that may indicate any food or grease left inside of your oven. An obvious sign that your oven needs to be cleaned is if your oven smokes which is a sign of buildup. If you find yourself rarely using the oven, then you may only need to clean it every 2-3 times a year. For those that bake and cook using the oven regularly, you’ll want to deep clean your oven once every 3 months.
